MEASUREMENT FRAMEWORK
Research Instruments
Versioned instrument framework. The registry distinguishes an instrument's legal reuse status from its scientific validation status. Exact wording, scoring, source, version, and modification status should be documented before an instrument is activated.
Acute experience
MEQ-4 and CEQ-7 are the selected brief psychedelic-specific measures, with source/provenance documented from the 2024 Strickland, Garcia-Romeu & Johnson publication.
Trauma / PTSD
PCL-5 with LEC-5 and Extended Criterion A is the selected PTSD module. Trauma-focused screening is optional and should not be required for every participant.
Wellbeing
WHO-5 is the selected broad wellbeing measure for baseline and longitudinal reassessment, with attribution and license obligations documented in provenance.
Broad outcomes
Selected PROMIS short forms can measure depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, pain interference, physical function, and social/role function without administering every domain to every participant.
Instrument library & provenance
| Instrument | Use | Rights / provenance status | Registry plan | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PCL-5 + LEC-5 + Extended Criterion A | Trauma exposure context and PTSD symptom severity | VA identifies PCL-5 as public domain / not copyrighted. Registry reference version: 29 August 2023 form; citation: Weathers et al. (2013). | Optional trauma/PTSD baseline module with longitudinal reassessment at selected later intervals; preserve validated wording and scoring. | VA source ↗ |
| WHO-5 | Mental wellbeing | User-supplied license information identifies CC BY-SA terms: attribution required; adaptations must use the same or compatible license. Current official source should be re-verified before final embedding. | Core wellbeing measure at baseline and selected longitudinal follow-ups. | WHO source ↗ |
| MEQ-4 / CEQ-7 | Mystical-type and challenging acute effects | The 2024 open-access article is distributed under CC BY 4.0. Exact instrument-item provenance is recorded separately before embedding. | Brief acute/post-experience module; do not casually alter wording or response structure. | Open-access article ↗ |
| PROMIS short forms | Depression, anxiety, sleep, pain, physical function, social/role function | HealthMeasures instruments are copyrighted; specific forms and reproduction terms must be documented before activation. | Use a small core set plus conditional modules rather than a large universal battery. | HealthMeasures ↗ |
Schedule of assessments
| Time point | Core registry content | Validated measures / modules |
|---|---|---|
| At registry ID creation | Prompt to complete baseline profile before creating a prospective episode. | WHO-5 core; optional trauma/PTSD module; selected PROMIS domains after final rights review. |
| Pre-experience | Intentions, expectations, mood, setting, safety, medications/co-exposures. | Brief context measures only; avoid unnecessary burden. |
| Acute / post-experience | Experience characteristics and adverse events. | MEQ-4 + CEQ-7. |
| 24 hours | Immediate recovery, adverse effects, sleep/function. | Brief safety-focused module. |
| 7 days | Wellbeing, functioning, integration, benefit/harm. | WHO-5 + selected PROMIS. |
| 30 days | Wellbeing, functioning, perceived benefit/harm. | WHO-5 + PROMIS; PCL-5 if trauma module enrolled. |
| 90 days | Durability and functioning. | WHO-5 + PROMIS; PCL-5 where applicable. |
| 6 months | Longer-term durability, safety, functioning. | WHO-5 + selected PROMIS; PCL-5 where applicable. |
| 1 year | Long-term outcomes, perceived benefit/harm, major life/function changes. | WHO-5 + selected PROMIS; PCL-5 where applicable. |
